One fire, many irons

I find myself with a very full plate… again.  Honestly, I like it when I have many irons in the fire, so to speak.  But as expected, it becomes too much.  I want to do it all, but I only have so much energy; so much time… not to mention I’m a full time mom during my family’s waking hours.  But to paraphrase my blog’s slogan… Do something new, it doesn’t hurt to try!

So what on Earth is on my plate now?

Marathon training

with my triathlon season wrapping up in a few weeks, I’m jumping into Team in Training once again!  I really do love that organization, and the cause touches me, my family, my friends.  The Southern Nevada organization is a tad rickety right now, so dearest Coach Chuck — who coached me during my tri training, and with whom I still train with on occasion — asked if I would consider mentoring members of the upcoming marathon team.

The goal race is P.F. Chang’s Rock & Roll Marathon in Phoenix on January 18, 2009.  Problem is… I don’t care for running that much.  I do it fine.  I like running 10Ks.  Heck, I’d even love to run a half marathon this winter.  But a whole 26.2 miles… meh.

Well, I decided to go for it.  Why not?  I have already amazed myself, pushed my body to achieve physically… in ways I never thought possible.  I know I can do it.  And, I look forward to the mental break from training for three sports in the wee hours of the morning.

Going back to work

I really want to go back to work next year, and put my teaching credential to good use (finally).  Both the girls will be in school, and I’m really craving the thought of having my own classroom.  A couple weeks ago, I finally added a grades 7-12 English credential to my teaching license, and I renewed the license which will be good for another six years.

Now, I need to further discuss the feasibility with my husband, my mom (who will help pick up the girls after school), and decide if I’m really ready for the distraction!  Meanwhile, I’m talking around to people I know, getting my feelers out for middle school English or Reading positions around the district.

Blissfully editing

I have a new gig as editor of the Blissful Buzz channel over at Blissfully Domestic.  That’s okay, I’ll pause a moment while you laugh that off… me… DOMESTIC… ???

So far, it has been fun gathering writers for Buzz, which covers celebrity news, pop culture, books, movies, goofy stuff.  It reminds me of when I was a copy editor way back in the day, and I enjoy hearing fresh ideas and reading the contributors’ posts.  (PSST!  If you’re interested in writing for Blissfully Domestic, let me know!  All channels, including mine, are still taking in writers.)

Hop on over to check it out, there are lots of goodies and information over there.  The site launched today, so it is still has a few hiccups.

  1. You ARE a busy girl. But you can do it!

I am part of the photography channel over at BD. I didn’t know you were involved too! Go team BD 🙂

  2. I am probably adding much work editing my sorry ass grammatical error posts, but I like to keep you on your toes! ha.

So glad you are doing a marathon. Once again, doing something so OUT OF THE BOX. nice.

I would love to sit in on your class someday. That would be a hoot!

  3. You’re doing it? You’re mentoring? For the full?! Awesome…
I’ll most likely be there, not part of Team, but still…. it will be great to have friends on the course!

  4. You make me feel quite lazy.:)

Congrats on the editor position. I have a feeling you are far more domestic than you think.

  5. A Marathon! You Rock for sure. I can just get a 5k in now and then :).

And congrats on the new gig, it sounds wonderful. And on keeping up your teaching credentials. Even though I have a couple years to go to get back into full time, I still consider my reentry into the workforce every now and then, it scares me silly sometimes.

  6. How did I miss this?

I’m sure you will breeze through the marathon with ease. I think you are one of the most determined people I know!

I’m also certain that “Mrs. B.” will be a huge asset to any school, as well as an editor for any website out there.

I’m trying to think of something else you could add into the mix. Hmmm… maybe you should adopt a Namibian orphan or invent a new type of laundry machine that magically cleans, dries, folds and puts away laundry. Or maybe you could start a band or take yodeling lessons. The possibilities are endless!

  7. Oh, Marci. You are truly TRULY amazing and inspiring. You amaze me. Did I mention that you’re amazing??

It’s really interesting to me to read about your life and the choices you’re making and the possibility of entering the workforce (well GOING to a job) again.

Keep up updated girl, at least occasionally.

  8. Oh, and congrats on the Blissfully Domestic job!!

  9. The Buzz thing sounds fun. Are dudes allowed?

  10. Good thing you are marathon training – you are going to need the endurance. Congrats on the new gigs!

  11. wow, i thought i was busy. you go girl!
