Ode to 2007

02Jan08

Because I’m feeling so original, I’m swiping this meme from her majesty The Whoorl.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

I started training for a triathlon! Get ready for Triathlon Tuesdays, a brand new series of posts found here at LVGurl in 2008!
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

For some reason, I never make resolutions. Lent is enough for me.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes, and it is a horribly tragic story, one that has torn at my heart every single day since September.

On a happier note, my friend Cliff’s wife gave birth to beautiful little girl last March.
Here’s to healthy babies in 2008.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Technically, no.

5. What countries did you visit?

None 😦 But Andrew went to France and Spain. Twice.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

More hours in the day.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

February 4, Paige’s baptism; March 1, Paige’s surgery; June 10, My parents’ 40th anniversary; July 15, Paige’s 1st birthday; August 6, Makenna’s 3rd birthday; September 19, a little angel named Salvatore was born.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Finishing my master’s program and graduating in May.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not managing my time very well.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Aside from germs Makenna brings home from preschool, nope.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My new bike. And our DVR.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Makenna, for becoming a braver little girl since going to preschool.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Britney Spears. Which reminds me, I need to watch the new True Hollywood Story, Britney Spears: Fall From Grace. It’s on the DVR.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Gymboree – I love to clothe the chicks!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Going to Hawaii!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

Upside Down by Jack Johnson (from the Curious George soundtrack). Makenna demanded to hear it over and over and over and over and over and over ………………..

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:? a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?

a) Happier, b) The same, and c) That’s nobody’s business 😉

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Kept in better touch with my friends afar.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Spending copious amounts of time on the Internet.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with Andrew, the girls, and my parents… and I loved every minute of it!

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?

David Sedaris. He’s my new gay crush. And I weep because I have read all of his essays now. David, wherever you are… PLEASE PUBLISH A NEW BOOK!

22. What was your favorite TV program?

It’s a toss up between The Hills and Rock of Love.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Hate, that’s a strong word. But no.

24. What was the best book you read?

Me Talk Pretty One Day

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

My new iPod Touch.

26. What did you want and get?

Some sleep.

27. What did you want and not get?

A daytime babysitter. Oh, and a Tanqueray pump in the garage.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

I DID NOT SEE A MOVIE IN THE THEATER THIS YEAR.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I went out to dinner with Andrew. I am 33 and 3/4.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

A clone. And increased lung capacity.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Owning clothes that didn’t date back to 2002.

32. What kept you sane?

Two good girls. A funny husband. Chats with Kim and Elisabeth. Spending time with Erin and Katie. Gin.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Geez, I haven’t really thought about that. Bret Michaels, maybe?
34. What political issue stirred you the most?

The fact that all presidential candidates (both parties) frighten me to no end. Where are the old men with 60 years experience in politics??? Call me an old-fashioned stick-in-the-mud.

35. Who did you miss?

My cousin Nancy. We spent some time together after Thanksgiving, and it reminded me how much I adore my Big Sis-like cousin.

Happy 2008, folks!

  1. #1 excites me to no end! More posts… WHOOT!

Yay for you, you had a good 2007 but how tragic on #3.

    🙂

  2. david is SO great live. you MUST see him if he is ever in your town. you will not regret it!

    happy new year!

  3. What a great list – I liked learning more about you 🙂

    Happy New Year!

  4. Even if you’re copying the list idea, it’s still a great post. It’s always fun to get a little more insight into people.

I’m looking forward to following your training progress. Tri’s scare me just because of the swimming part. I’m a wuss.

  5. Ahhh… you beat me to it! I just posted mine. And to think I passed up that Tanqueray pump for your Christmas gift. The choice between a Wham anthology and a keg of Tanqueray was just too hard to decide. I guess we’ll just have to wait until your birthday when I will hopefully come up with something better than 3 cookies. 🙂

But Bret Michaels?! I’m dying here.

  6. Awe, I made the list, I made the list!!!

Glad you had such a kickass year and many plans to make this year even better!!

    You rock sistah!

  7. What a great list. I could use some gin about now, perhaps I will wait for tomorrow when the last of the guests is gone and I can sit back and truly chill. Your 2007 looks like it was a pretty good year, minus one heartbreak that makes me tear up just at the thought.

    Happy 2008!

  8. i’m in awe of you and your training for a marathon. i train for marathon drink sessions but that’s beside the point.

here’s a wonderful 2008 and more posts from the beautiful LVGURL!!!

  9. Happy New Year.

We absolutely love David Sedaris..we agree that he’s past due for a new book. And if you ever have the chance to see him read/speak live, don’t pass it up…hysterical. His sister, Amy cracks me up too.

If you’re out of material, and you haven’t already, check out David Rakoff for a supplementary ‘gay crush’. Not quite as hilarious, but brilliant, nonetheless.

Good luck with the triathlon and try to steer clear of the CES geeks next week.

  10. Great, now we’re going to feel like lazy losers ever Tuesday reading about how much in shape you are!

  11. 11 Your Cousin Nancy

Awwwwww, Marce. I adore you, Little Sis-like cousin! I’ll get down there to see you again soon by hook or by crook. Here’s to an positively unforgettable 2008!
