My Internet connection betrays me

01Aug07

I’m having a heck of a time doing anything online these days. I want to write better blog posts, I want to upload a bunch of pictures to Flickr, I want to SHOP… but my (not-so) high speed connection is up, then it’s down.

The problem began last December. Tired of paying steadily rising phone bills, we opted for our cable company’s bundle of HD digital cable, high speed Internet (both of which we already had) and Internet telephone. The bundle would save us at least $40 a month, and it amounted to one less bill I had to track.

Prior to setting up the Internet phone, the high speed service worked really well. The problem is that all three services tax the cable line running to our house.  So instead of having three great services, we are left with two good services (the digital cable and the phone) and one terrible service (my Internet connection that doesn’t stay put for more than five minutes at a time when it’s hot outside). What’s more frustrating, I can’t tell if the problem is the wiring to our house, or our cable provider. Nobody (the builder and the cable company) will take responsibility.

This graphic sums up my experience, thus far.

Meanwhile, I await yet another visit from the cable man. If they can’t figure out the problem this time, then I think I will have to cancel the Internet phone. Our cable line will then be freed up for the TV and Internet.

  2. Oh, I HATE it when the internet flakes out on me! Hope you get the situation fixed, and soon! Online shopping is a serious endeavor! “)

  3. I use Cox for my internet and it’s been great. But then, I’m not using them for any other services either. I need to keep them separate from my other household things because my employers pays the internet bill.

  4. Tell your cable company to hit the highroad! We need you online, without interruption!

Bummer about your current issues. I would be postal by now. 😀

  5. I would be going CRAZY! We have satellite Internet and it can have issues…one of the downsides to life in the sticks I guess. Hope it’s better soon 🙂

  6. I hope you get it all worked out. I have a similar issue, except I don’t have the voip phone, instead our cable company made everything “faster”. Unfortunately their definition of faster and mine are not the same. It would seem I am having slower connections and it really bums me out.

  7. Love the graphic- I totally had the same horrible experience with our cable internet combo. After the 6th or 7th visit, the cable guy and I got to be quite good friends.

  8. 108/360, that is TOO effing hilarious. Great work!
