A highly anticipated visit

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, my good friend Mel is flying from the toasty Sacramento area to abso-fuckin-lutely hot Las Vegas. This evening!! I’m so excited to see her. Despite busy lives and child rearing, we manage to meet up at least once a year, and it’s always a treat. Commence the long hours of chatter!

Mel’s husband J and my husband Andrew have been friends since high school. I have known Mel since 1999, when J brought her to dinner with Andrew and I so we could meet this girl from Oklahoma that he’d been dating long distance. Within a few months, she packed up a U-Haul and made a perilous journey through sleet and snow (literally) to begin her life with a great guy she started dating only a year before. I spent the morning searching through boxes trying to find a good picture of the us two together. I couldn’t find any that weren’t taken in the midst of a drunken haze. That’s sad, given that she and I have spent many non-intoxicated hours together.

It’s Mel’s bachelorette party! She looks smashing in a tiara, and I’m flashing one dollar bills, y’all.

And this picture has been on my mantle for about four years now.

I’m trying to kiss her, and she’s giving me the cheek Heisman.  Lay off the sauce, LVGurl…

So, this weekend should be lots of fun.  We’ll be mellow, opting for a decent night’s sleep over hazy nights out until 4am. A visit recap, complete with (hopefully) a couple good pictures of us.
