I’m hungry for a meme

05Jun07

Cool chick Sizzle was tagged for this meme, which she posted a few days ago…and now I’m tagging myself for it! I’ll post the rules, even though I probably won’t tag anyone. Too lazy. But if you’re inclined to play along, please let me know!

The rules:
1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you.

Include the city/state and country you’re in.
Nicole (Sydney, Australia)
velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
LB (San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy)
Selba (Jakarta, Indonesia)
Olivia (London, England)
ML (Utah, USA)
Lotus (Toronto, Canada)
tanabata (Saitama, Japan)
Andi (Dallas [ish], Texas, United States)
Todd – The Forcer (Louisville, Kentucky, United States)
Brooke (Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States)
Sizzle (Seattle, WA, U.S.)
LVGurl (Las Vegas, NV, United States)

2. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location.

3. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged. Again, if you want to play, just leave me a note! 🙂

One reason I LUV living in Vegas is the access to great dining. Haters would say that the restaurants are lame knock-offs of the big city originals. I really don’t care. The restaurants are still fabulous and the food oh, so tasty.

It is hard for me to pick five favorites, so here are my current stand-outs:

TAO (The Venetian) – I *heart* TAO. The food is pan-Asian (yes, uh-huh, I made that up) and there is something for every taste bud. Read: for people like me who don’t like sushi. The food is such that while you’re eating it, you are completely silent… except for when you’re uttering, under your breath, with your mouth full, “Oh my gawd, this is so good.” I *heart* the atmosphere and design even more. And the thumping house music. Did I mention that the food is unbelievable? Try the pork spring rolls, Mongolian scallion chicken, and miso-glazed Chilean sea bass.

Alize (The Palms) – Mmmm, Alize. The view is fantabulous and the food is outstanding. It is French, but don’t let that scare you. The menu has a wide range, but be ready to drop some bank. The wine list is extensive and the sommelier has great recommendations. Filet mignon and lamb trio, both exceptional.

Simon (Hard Rock Hotel) – I love Simon for its Asian-fusion-meets-comfort-food cuisine. I appreciate that celebrity chef Kerry Simon walks the floor every night he is there, and actually prepares some of the dishes himself. I fell in love with Kerry Simon when he beat Cat Cora on Iron Chef America, as he made the best looking hamburger I have ever seen. The side of truffled macaroni and cheese is magnificent, and most desserts are served with a tiny vanilla milkshake.

Mon Ami Gabi (Paris Las Vegas) – Maybe not the best restaurant in Vegas, per se, but it holds a special place in my heart as one of the first places I dined when arriving here five years ago. The outdoor seating (when you can get it) is really nice, and you can watch the Bellagio water show.  And the selection of plates is fine. I dig the steak au poivre.

Terra Rossa (Red Rock) – This little Italian number is located in the nearby hotel/spa/casino. The service is excellent and the food, YUM! I love the lasagna, and Andrew has enjoyed the fish each time.

And hey, if any of you are traveling to Vegas, drop me a note. I’m happy to give my “local perspective” recommendations anytime.

  1. Okay, I’ll have to try those. We try visiting places mentioned in the Review Journal’s Best of LV, usually the newspaper’s picks… not the readers because they pick places like Taco Bell.

  9. You know I’m kicking myself that I didn’t “know” you when I went to Vegas in February, right? Gah.

We stayed at the Venetian; LOVED it (and Tao). Here’s a fun fact: Their wasabi peas don’t taste as fiery when you’re really drunk. (Hey, it was my first real night out/trip since we had the baby!)
